what's in a name?
This is where I feature a character from an anime and explain their name meanings. If you'd like to request a name meaning, let me know! ^_^
Name: Yukimura Seiichi
Anime: Prince of Tennis
Meaning:
Yukimura is a wonderful character that has lots of potential... His name is quite fitting to his character as well. "Yuki" is the kanji
for peace or happiness, and "mura" means village. I think this reflects the serenity of his nature very well.
The more interesting part about his name is the fact that it stems from the historic Japanese war hero, Sanada Yukimura. A
brilliant tactician and expert in the art of war, he almost led a successful campaign against the then-shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. He is
ultimately betrayed and meets a tragic end. I think it's interesting indeed, that the powerhouse tennis team Rikkaidai's Captain (Yukimura)
and Vice Captain (Sanada) are named after this true life hero.
"Sei" means soul or life force. This of course, speaks to Yukimura's passionate feelings toward tennis, and his incredible
will to overcome his suffering to become greater than he is. Ichi is a common ending for a boy's name.

RAWs at Saiyaman Yugioh GX (Next Generation) takes place several years after the end of Yugioh: Duel Monsters, with a whole new cast of characters! The backdrop is Duel Acadamia, a new school created by Kaiba Seto as a training ground for his future duelists and game designers. The main character is Yuki Judai, a dueling genius who has taken the torch from Yugi and is well on his way to becoming the next duel king.
This series is definitely focused more on the duels themselves, with new duels (usually involving Judai) taking place every episode. The duels tend to be shorter than they were in the prior series, and closely follow the TCG rules. So far, much of the story appears to be episodic, with mini stories that end in one or two episodes, and focusing mainly on showcasing new deck themes. However, there does appear to be some interesting developments that have taken root, and will likely tie into a bigger and deeper story line. So far, these include:
1. Manjoume Jun's disappearance and the story behind his family.
2. Asuka's brother's disappearance and the shadow games experimentations that took place in his dorm before he went missing.

You could say that the reason why I began this blog in the first place is because nobody else blogs this series. I also happen to be a huge fan of Yugioh (the original), and have become quite attached to this new series. I am not a duelist by any means, so that is not necessarily my focus...although I think the new monsters are pretty cool.
Some episodes I have enjoyed more than others, and my opinions probably come through in my posts. My favorite character is by far Manjoume Jun, so my entries on episodes featuring this character will be obviously biased. ^_^
