Because I'm a shameless Manjoume fangirl.
This is where I feature a character from an anime and explain their name meanings. If you'd like to request a name meaning, let me know! ^_^
Name: Yukimura Seiichi
Anime: Prince of Tennis
Yukimura is a wonderful character that has lots of potential... His name is quite fitting to his character as well. "Yuki" is the kanji
for peace or happiness, and "mura" means village. I think this reflects the serenity of his nature very well.
The more interesting part about his name is the fact that it stems from the historic Japanese war hero, Sanada Yukimura. A
brilliant tactician and expert in the art of war, he almost led a successful campaign against the then-shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. He is
ultimately betrayed and meets a tragic end. I think it's interesting indeed, that the powerhouse tennis team Rikkaidai's Captain (Yukimura)
and Vice Captain (Sanada) are named after this true life hero.
"Sei" means soul or life force. This of course, speaks to Yukimura's passionate feelings toward tennis, and his incredible
will to overcome his suffering to become greater than he is. Ichi is a common ending for a boy's name.

* Mai HiME 18 *
Mai HiME Ep 18: Beginning
I really enjoyed this episode, despite the fact that I'm actually starting to tire a little of this series. I'm not sure what the deal is with my thoughts on the series itself. I've liked it well enough so far, but it just feels like something is missing. Maybe it's missing characters that I actually care about. (Well, maybe with the exception of Akira, who's the best character in the story!) When watching something like this, I tend to get distracted by the odd aspects of the story (Children, Elements, confusing and unexplained plot), in addition to the beautiful music and animation that I can't seem to focus enough on the characters. Not enough so to actually care as much about them as I normally would with other stories. Yeah, Mai is a very admirable character - a devoted sister, &tc., but nothing really captures me about anybody. Anyway, I'll end my rant here.
As for today's episode...as I said, excellent in all respects for a Mai HiME episode. Lots of action, and some interesting plot developments...it certainly keep me intrigued enough to see what's going to happen next. For more screencaps and an excellent synposis, see moyism's blog. I'd also recommend mentar and Momotato Daioh's pages. Since a thorough and well done synopsis has already been written, I'll probably keep this short.
The episode opens with Mashiro and Fumi talking in some kind of abandoned building. Mashiro is worried that what she's about to do is not the "right" thing to do. Fumi says she doesn't know, but assures her that if that's what Mashiro believes is right, Fumi will accompany her always. "Soon, he will awaken," Mashiro says. (Ah, so mentar was right...it's a he).
Meanwhile, Mai's being attacked by that mysterious Hime from the last episode. "Die," the ghostly form hisses, and she sends her crow like child at Mai. Mai tries to block it with her barrier, but she gets flung back.. Mikoto jumps in and rescues her, and is about to lay waste to the ghost Hime with Miroku, when Mai stops her. "We can't fight another Hime!" she implores. Nao has been watching this whole time...
Elsewhere, Akira is speaking with an unknown male hidden in the shadows... "Did my father know of the fight before me?" she asks. The man says, "I know not. However, he asked me to tell you to survive at all costs." Akira replies, "Tell him, I understand."
Scene switches to Mai taking a bath - fan service for the boys. (Meh...I want the Seigaku guys at training camp!). She remembers how a donor has been found for her brother, and she's determined to keep him safe...but then she realizes that's the kind of thinking that's going to make Nagi happy, and tries to drive such thoughts away. In the bedroom, Mikoto is dreaming about her brother, and how she used to train with him. He tells her in the dream that he senses hesitation in her attacks. He assures her that if an enemy is before her, she should defeat it without hesitation. "Good girl," he says. Mikoto awakens, to find her necklace glowing with heat.
When Mai comes out, she thanks Mikoto for saving her. But she reminds her that they shouldn't fight other Hime.
The next morning, Mai is enthusiastically telling Takumi about the new donor. Takumi seems a little reluctant, and asks if he could think about it for a little while...
Mai walks into class, and bumps into Tate. There's an uncomfortable air between them, and their classmates wonder whether something happened with Reito and Shiho.
Later, Yukino, Mai, Nao and Mikoto have been called out by Midori to discuss their situation. Midori tells them to hold off fighting until she can get to the bottom of things. Nao points out that the fighting has already begun, and looks at Mai. Mai tells the girls about her encounter with the strange Hime last night. Mai reminds everyone what happened to Kazu...that they can't possibly fight amongst themselves. But Nao notes that it was Mai who had killed Alyssa's Child. Mai's Child is a monster who can even fly through space...who knows what she's capable of? "Don't be backstabbed by those you thought were your friends," Nao says. Yukino shrinks back in fear, and runs off. Midori tries to comfort Mai, saying she had no choice, because she was trying to save everyone...
That chubby teacher with the glasses and beard (I forget his name, and I'm too lazy to look it up) tells Natsuki that she should try her best to survive...it's a fate she can't escape. "You think I would be satisfied with that?" she asks. "Probably not," he replies. "There you have it," she says as she walks off. "She is your daughter after all, Dr. Kuga," he says to himself. Ishigami walks up and tells the bearded guy that he shouldn't be leaking information to a Hime. The man replies, "You have various things that would get you in even more trouble with the higher ups...isn't that right?" Ishigami tries to play off: "Whatever do you mean?"
Mai catches up with Natsuki, and they talk things over. It turns out Natsuki's mother used to work for the First District. Natsuki suspects that her mother discovered the truth about the Hime, and chose to betray the First District in order to save her. But they got to her mother first, and succeeded in killing her. (We also find out Natsuki is 17 years old - one year older than her classmates. She was out for one year due to her mother's death). "I have nothing to fear, since I don't have a precious person to protect," she says. But she also says she has no intention of fighting, because that will only help the plans of the First District.
The girls hear a scream, and they rush over...it's Yukariko, and she's injured, or so it seems. She says it was Nao that attacked her... Natsuki runs off into the forest with Duran. Nao is sittng around minding her business, when a shot is fired in her direction (not Natsuki, but Nao believes it's her). Natsuki catches up with Nao, accusations fly...Nao summons her Child, and they go at it. Nao is injured in her face, and flies off on Julia, infuriated. Mai, Mikoto, Midori and Yukino run up, and are shocked to see that the battle has already begun...
Meanwhile, Mashiro has returned home, and Nagi greets her. "While you were gone, the first battle has already occured," he says. "I don't know what you told them," she replies, "but will they so easily listen to what you say? Those girls were born in a peaceful era..." He says, "What do you think I've painstakingly been doing all this time? Even if they despise their powers, they have used them to fight already...and they have a reason to fight. Right now, they are like this celluloid doll...just one flicker of fire, and..." the doll he was holding drops to his feet in flames.
"Has the prince of Kokuyou awakened?" Mashiro asks. "Who knows?" Nagi replies, "You have no need to know that. Or even who he is. Why do you look at me like that? Did you remember something about your past?"
Later that night, Midori confronts Mashiro with documents that prove that a girl by the Chairman's name had died in an accident during an excavation trip. Mashiro notes that all such documents were supposed to have been destroyed... Midori demands to know who she is and what her role is in these events...and whether there's a way to stop things from happening as planned. Mashiro reponds that she must help these plans go into motion. Midori contemplates how she took on a teaching job reluctantly in order to finish her thesis...but now that she's been with the students, she has realized that she's become quite attached to them in spite of herself. She says she will protect them at all cost. Her Element materializes, and she points it at Mashiro. "I will have you tell me everything," Midori says.
"I understand," Mashiro responds. Fumi steps out between Mashiro and Midori. "I am sorry...Sugiura sensei," she says, as she too, materializes an Element - a scythe.
Scene switches to the church, where a wounded Yukariko is kneeling with her Child behind her. "That's fine, Vrus," she says. The Child disappears. Yukariko stands, and unwraps her bandages. "Lies...illusion...it's as though..." She looks distraught. Ishigami walks in, and advances toward her in a sinister manner... "Aren't you going to pray?" he asks, "That's right...you have lost the right to serve God." He grabs her arm and forces himself toward her.
"But it isn't your fault," he tells her. "I am the one who tainted you...force all your sins and guilt unto me. Sister! Hate me!"
"Please...not here, of all places..." she implores.
"I will take the powers of the star!" he hisses, and kisses her forcibly... (ew...creep!)
